Engineering Pkgs - Present Status
1. Engineering Surveys

Waste Survey
The waste survey was conducted to ascertain the actual waste generation characteristics in each municipality and to assess the percentage of compostable, recyclable and inerts in the municipal waste.

“Scientific Research Laboratory” was selected as this agency had wide experience for waste sampling and analyses in this region, and also, they were very familiar with the targeted municipalities.

The survey was conducted by collection of waste from different landuse types of the municipalities in consultation with the concerned Sanitary Inspectors (SIs) of the municipalities.

The Waste survey was conducted between Dec 2007 and Jan 2008. After analyzing the data collected through this survey a Waste Survey Report was submitted for all six municipalities which was utilized for preparation of the Design Reports.

Topographical Survey

Topographic Survey was conducted to determine the actual boundary of the proposed sites, the topography of the sites especially in terms of selected long and cross profiles and determination of values of TTS and TBM. “Softa Computer” was determined as the surveyor and they initiated the surveys from the mid of February 2008. The survey team has completed their survey for the six municipal sites and submitted their Report with drawings which were utilized for the Design Reports.

Soil Investigations
The objective of the investigations was to ascertain the sub-soil geotechnical properties and profile in order to design and plan most suitable type of foundations for the structures envisaged.“Sengupta Engineering Services” were determined as the surveyors for soil investigation and they initiated the surveys from mid of February 08.  The survey team has already completed their survey for the six municipal sites and submitted their Reports which were utilised for the Design Reports.

Septic Tank Sludge and Canal Water Survey

The project envisages discharging surface runoff, treated leachate from the landfill and the treated effluent from the septic tank sludge treatment plant planned at the RWMC into the Dankuni Canal – Baidyabati Khal – Hooghly River System. As such it was felt necessary to evaluate the chemical and biological quality of the septic tank sludge generated in the municipalities and also that of the water in the abovementioned canal system. The survey was accordingly commissioned in the last week of February 2008 and the survey agency (Scientific Research Laboratory) has completed their surveys and submitted their Analysis Report which was utilised for the Design Reports.
